ADULT CHORUS AUDITIONS, May 18-19, 2007

for THE CHRISTMAS REVELS 2007
Eight performances at Lisner Auditorium: December 8-9 & 14-16

Who: Men and women of all ages and ancestries (18 and over *) -- SATB

What: Prepare two pieces to sing unaccompanied: a song of your choice and any traditional carol.**

* High school students should audition for the teen chorus in September, see below. Seniors graduating this Spring are eligible to audition as an adult.

** The entire audition process takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours and includes performing some simple dance steps and singing with others. Your audition piece should demonstrate that you can sing lightly with an early music style (a clear and pure tone, with not much vibrato for women). The music this year will include traditional ballads used in Shakespeare’s time, along with 5-part madrigals and part songs, carol sings with the audience, and traditional Revels pieces like Lord of the Dance, Dona Nobis and Sussex Mummers.

For our 25th Christmas Revels in Washington, D.C., we visit the colorful Renaissance world of Queen Elizabeth the First. Follow Will Kemp, the irreverent and brilliantly talented clown from Shakespeare's company, as he dances the Morris from London to Norwich to meet the Queen! Along the way, he’ll encounter townsfolk and tavern keepers, courtiers and comics, singers and storytellers, all set against a background of magnificent Elizabethan music, dance and drama. Featured in this year's Revels will be Revels favorite fool, Mark Jaster as Will Kemp, and Piffaro: the Renaissance Band (both picture on the right).

Please note: The Washington Revels community reflects our larger community, therefore we are seeking to create a diverse chorus consisting of good singers of all ancestries, sizes and ages.
