ADULT CHORUS AUDITIONS, May 29-30, 2009

for THE CHRISTMAS REVELS 2009
Nine performances at Lisner Auditorium: December 4-6 & 11-13

Who: Men and women of all ages and ancestries (18 and over *) -- SATB
When: Fri., May 29, 4:00-8:00pm & Sat., May 30, 9:30am-12:00pm

What: Prepare 2 short audition pieces of your choice without accompaniment.
           Please Note: Your selection can be from any era or genre with the exception of "pop" music or show tunes. Traditional songs, carols, folk tunes, hymns, and early vocal works (Renaissance) are recommended. **

* High school students should audition for the teen chorus in September. Seniors graduating this Spring are eligible to audition as an adult.

** The music this year will include 4-part to 10-part Italian Renaissance vocal music (sung in Italian and Latin), as well as seasonal carols and traditional Revels pieces like Lord of the Dance, Dona Nobis Pacem and Sussex Mummers (sung in English). If you are comfortable singing in Italian, please do so. If you perform any Italian folk dances, we are also interested in seeing you dance. Your audition piece should demonstrate that you can sing lightly and in tune with an early music style (a clear and pure tone, with not much vibrato for women).

The entire audition process takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours and includes performing some simple dance steps and singing with others. Please note: The Washington Revels community reflects our larger community; we therefore seek to create a diverse cast consisting of strong performers of all backgrounds and ancestries.

For our 27th annual Christmas Revels in Washington, D.C., we travel to Renaissance Italy to visit the workshop of Leonardo da Vinci. It is the end of the 15th century, an age of new exploration of man's relationship to nature, an intoxicating elevation of the human imagination. Special guests this year include the world-renowned early music ensemble Piffaro, the Renaissance Band. All performances take place in George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC. Please call to schedule an appointment.

Wednesday Rehearsals

• 11 Wednesday Evenings, June 3 (first meeting - Location TBD), as well as
  Sept. 9 – Nov. 18 from 7:15-10:00 pm
• Location: Washington Revels new office and rehearsal space in Silver Spring, MD (TBD)

Weekend Rehearsals

• Saturday, September 26: 9:00am - 4:30pm
• Sunday, October 18: 12:00-6:00pm: Costume Parade & Fittings (1 hour appointments)
• Saturday, October 24: 9:00am - 5:00pm
• Sunday, October 25: Afternoon (TBD) (Possible small group and dance rehearsals)
• Saturday, November 21: 9:00am - 5:00pm
• Sunday, November 22: Noon - 6:00pm (Possible small group rehearsal in the morning)
• Sunday, November 29: Noon - 6:00pm

In-Theater Rehearsals
