TEEN and CHILDREN'S Auditions, September 10-12

for THE 2010 CHRISTMAS REVELS
Eight performances at Lisner Auditorium: December 4-5 & 10-12

For our 28th annual Christmas Revels in Washington, D.C., we travel to novelist Thomas Hardy’s beloved “Wessex” to the little town of Mellstock in the countryside of nineteenth-century England. We'll celebrate an English Country Christmas with traditional carols, anthems, rounds, country dancing, and a hilarious mummer's play. This year's guest artists, The Mellstock Band, come from England replete with a wonderfully eclectic collection of string and wind instruments, including the haunting “serpent,” a snake-like ancestor of the tuba. All performances take place in George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC.

Please note: The Washington Revels community reflects our larger community; we therefore seek to create a diverse cast consisting of strong performers of all backgrounds and ancestries.

Audition Information for CHILDREN

Seeking strong performers entering entering grades 3-5 in Fall 2010

• Friday, September 10 at 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00pm
• Saturday, September 11 at 10:30 and 11:30am
• Sunday, September 12 (afternoon - Callbacks Only)

The auditions and callbacks will be held at the Washington Revels Office (531 Dale Drive, Sliver Spring, MD)

You must call the Revels office after Aug. 20 at 301-587-3835 to sign up for an audition slot – no walk-ins. Each child should prepare an unaccompanied song that he or she enjoys singing and is comfortable with (no pop songs or show tunes, please).

Audition Information for TEENS

Seeking strong singers and dancers entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2010

• Saturday, September 11 at 3:00, 4:15, 5:30 and 6:45pm

Teen auditions will at the Washington Revels Office (531 Dale Drive, Sliver Spring, MD) <view map, directions and parking information>.

You must call the Revels office after Aug. 20 at 301-587-3835 to sign up for an audition slot – no walk-ins. Each teen should prepare an unaccompanied song that he or she enjoys singing and is comfortable with (no pop songs or show tunes, please). The audition process will also include group singing and moving or dancing with others and will take approximately one hour. Washington Revels Teens rehearse with the Adult Chorus:

• Saturday, November 20: 9:00am - 5:00pm - Washington Episcopal School, Bethesda, MD
• Sunday, November 21: Noon - 6:00pm (Possible earlier call for children) - Washington Episcopal School, Bethesda, MD
• Saturday, November 27: Probable afternoon rehearsal with guest artists at Revels office, time TBD.
