Washington Revels Education
Play
through the ages!
Educational Philosophy:
Washington Revels believes that experiencing culture in a communal
way opens the mind and creative spirit and fosters an awareness
of the larger world with its rich and varied heritage. Throughout
history societies from around the world have used songs, dances,
games and stories to encourage learning, impart tradition and strengthen
community. By supporting experiential learning, Revels addresses
the fundamental need for self-expression and collective joy. Revels
teaching artists guide participants to:
- Explore traditional performing
arts kinesthetically -- actively, through movement and music
- Discover the uniqueness of
different cultures and find the universal themes expressed in
songs, dances, games and stories
- Create community through shared
arts experiences and playful interactions
- Build new traditions based
on time-honored seasonal celebrations
