Our 2nd annual SunFest features two stages of entertainment presenting traditions from Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and the U.S, including a fusion of many traditions by The Pushovers and Afrikan Rhapsody.

2011 T-Shirt Design Contest Winners

We received 30 impressive entries to our SunFest T-Shirt Design Contest from local area students, representing all grade levels from Kindergarten to 12th grade.  We hope you will take a moment to look at all the fabulous entries and think about joining our next Art Contest this fall for the 2011 Christmas Revels.

Washington Revels is pleased to present the second annual SunFest, produced by Amber Ileene Curry, a vibrant performing arts festival in celebration of the summer! This free-to-the-public festival will be held in downtown Silver Spring on June 19 (summer solstice weekend) featuring a wide variety of traditional performing arts, with an emphasis on sun and summer celebrations from around the world. Ellsworth Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and we’ll party in Silver Plaza. Washington Revels will lead a parade joined by the other performing arts groups on two stages, plus cameo performances by other singers and instrumentalists. There will be a folk mart with artisan handicrafts and activities for kids.

Opening Parade

• Members of Washington Revels will march with puppets, street dancers, colorful banners and streamers
• Dancers representing earth, fire, air, and water will accompany a giant Sun to reign over our festivities, along with his consort, Water Mother, a large reed puppet.
• Other performing groups will also march in the parade, with music and percussion
